It has been several years since I traveled this country. It is one of the safest Arab countries in the Middle East. I therefore dared to be there alone. With a rental car, I explored the country. I would like to share some pictures with you.
In the picture you can see the old fort of the oasis city Nizwa - with a view of the Qaboos Mosque
Your carefully chosen PoV and composition have created an image with so much depth that it is almost 3D... I feel that I could just walk into the picture.
@casablanca I traveled to Oman 7 years ago. The old clay architecture interested me. Above all, I wanted to see the desert. I was also at the highest peak of Oman, on the Jebel Shams. Many memories come to life when I look at the pictures of this journey.
Beautiful composition and color. Just perfect. I can relate. I spent a year, alone, driving around countries in the Middle Ease, then crossed Africa. Its got a special place in my heart, and you have captured one of the reasons why.
did you go see the hilly al-bhustan village? there used to be a beautiful mosque there, a stark contrast to the desolate landscape and yet the whole landscape could take your breath away. that or the heat! aces on this, Jerome. i definitely could hang this on my wall and be inspired to write.
@summerfield Unfortunately, I do not know Al-Bhustan. As you say - there are great landscapes in Oman, many areas are unfortunately already very over-shaped by Western influences - with some adverse effects. It was really hot - sometimes up to almost 40 degrees.
@stefneyhart Great - touring the Middle East for a whole year. You must have gathered great impressions from this trip. These are certainly treasures in the heart.
@jerome - al bhustan is southeast of downtown muscat about a 30-minute drive, as opposed to nizwa which is southwest. we used to stay weekends there at the inter-con hotel which is now Ritz-Carlton. but at the time it was all barren landscapes. too bad, i only had a bad camera then. i used to jog by the sea in 45 degrees heat!
@summerfield 45 degrees - that's huge! And on top of that you were jogging. I am very impressed.
Certainly you know Oman, its landscapes and the culture much better than me. It's good to have a bit of the diversity of this earth.
@jerome - well, i was 30 then so i still had a bit of stamina. and the earth wasn't that hot yet at that time. yes, diversity is good. good night, jerome.
@summerfield 30 - Vicki, I've had this birthday a long way in the past. That was in the last century...
Let's enjoy the days as much as possible.
I send you nice greetings to Toronto!
hi, jerome. i hope you are keeping well and safe. i 'm wŕiting to ask permission to paint this photo and maybe a couple other ones which I can't find right now☺. may i please? thank you in advance. take care.
@summerfield Hi Vikki! I am very happy about your message! How are you? Sorry for answering you so late.
You want to paint the photo? Yes, of course you can do that - also other pictures from my album. It is a great honor for me. Very nice that you visit my old pictures.
I didn't even know that you paint - really analogue with a hairbrush and paint? Great!
I hope I can see your work?!
I also should paint a bit again. I am currently practicing Shodo - Japanese calligraphy. This is actually more painting than writing.
I'm fine. I have some difficulties to overcome, but I am confident.
@jerome - thank you for your reply, jerome. and i'm very happy to know that you are fine and as i know you conquer high mountains, i also know that you would be able to overcome whatever difficulties you are experiencing.
due to the pandemic, and after quite a few months of hesitation, i took the plunge in october, grabbed the brush, dipped it in paints and slapped the canvas. i've not looked back. i obviously have to learn a lot (just like photography) but i am enjoying myself. as i live alone, working from home, and nowhere to go, i find painting very uplifting for the senses, in much the same way that photography does for me. some of my paintings i post on my album, they are not good by professional standards, but i was told that for someone who just started i at least have some sense of depth (thanks, again to photography) and light. well, some of the time. as i said, i am still learning. there are also a few 365ers who have started to paint and we decided to show each other our works via a 365 album called "artsy gang" so you should check us out and if you want, you can offer critiques which we would welcome very much.
if you need to just "talk" you can always email me at vikkisummerfield@gmail. maybe with my years of seniority i could hope to offer some wisdom. again, thank you for giving permission to have this photo be put in paint. i don't think i've mentioned it before, but i lived and worked in muscat, the sultanate of oman, for 3 years and a few months. and i would love to go back there and explore the country before i die.
take care and stay well.
