A dull & boring moth by jesika2

A dull & boring moth

A newly eclosed Elephant Hawk moth in all its glory.
It's really perched on my finger but it looks much more spectacular on a plain black background.
Raised from a caterpillar in my York home.

@fbailey Deliberately so. "Evereybody knows" that moths are dull & boring, don't they?

Nothing dull and boring about this creature! I've never know anyone to raise moths though ;-) Very nice shot.

@pej Gorgeous, isn't it? They are friendly too, both as caterpillars and imago. I don't know how many lepidoptera we have raised & released over the years, many from eggs, One glorious summer 500+ Peacock butterflies left their breeding cages in a cloud of colourful wings.
Thank you, Paul

Definitely not dull, or boring.

Wow, very cool shot. I agree the black background really lets it stand out.

@susiemc Thanks, Sue. It's amazing how many revile moths and adore butterflies, declaring moths dull & boring & butterflies bright & beautiful.

@joev Thank you, Joe. We have this image framed & hanging on the wall. It looks absolutely stunning.

This is splendid and must be quite arresting as a framed image. Very pleased to see you 'fête-ing' moths. They are so underrated, as if they were poor relations.

@s4sayer Thanks, Margo. They are basically the same aren't they? Moth or butterfly, important and precious. We've been trapping for years but I am by no means expert, not even semi-knowledgeable, especially the micro-moths. Trapping is fascinating, you never know what will visit. All are released safely to spend the day hiding from predators.

@365projectdrewpdavies Thank you. I didn't see many this summer, but I didn't see many of anything, quite a lot of species but few insects.
