I decided to go shoot something really different from my usual. When I first got to the bike park, none of the kids were riding. They were hanging. i waited and waited and finally got my courage up to go over to them and tell them I'd love to photograph them. I guess I reminded them of their grandmothers and they very kindly did some stunts for me. I think I did a good job with freezing action but I'd love advice from someone who knows better how to get the rider in focus but the background motion blurred. Settings?
Wonderful shot, with that shadow and all that action. Very entrepreneurial of you, too! :) As far as blur, maybe shooting more wide open than a 5.0 f stop? That is just a guess, though. Those kids are amazing.
You did a great job capturing him in the air like this, and with that fabulous shadow on the ground!! I don't think you would want to go any wider than f5.0, or you would lose the focus on him. The problem is that unless you can get much closer to him than the background (which would be downright dangerous!) it would be hard to get that more blurry, especially since it is right behind him.
