A victim of modern technology, the forest fire lookout towers that used to dot British Columbia have been taken out of service and replaced by satellite imagery.
Hi Jim, I wanted to communicate with you regarding the lighting challenges. I am going to do the first 3 challenges each lasting about 3 weeks. Not always exactly. The first 3 will be using a reflector, a on camera bounce, and using one light for a moody shot. I am wondering if you could lead # 4 & #5 which could be using one light as a fill flash and as a key light. I'm thinking the fill flash would be aprox Oct 2 - 23 and then Oct 24 - Nov 12 camera flash key light.
I will do Nov 19 - Dec 11 using 2 light system with one flash for separation and then Dec 12 - 31 using gels (good time for the Holiday's). But if you could lead those 2 that would be great. I'm thinking the first several. My thought is to build slowly - gives people time to slowly purchase equipment instead of all at once and perhaps giving people a heads up on what they will need for the next future challenge after the one is done. Would that work for you?
@myhrhelper The thought of leading frightens me as I am very much in the learning process. I am guessing that you would begin by providing a description of the use of a flash for the purpose and then an assignment that would provide the learning.
Did you have in mind to prepare all the descriptions for technique?
Let me have a week or two for me to try and come to grips with the two lessons, and to see if I can be comfortable.
I agree with the go slow approach. That is how I have come to the stage where I am now. My camera, a Canon 6D, does not have an on camera flash. I bought my first flash to use just for that. Later I started doing macro, and I invested in the ring flash. Having the two flashes, in the last few months I have been trying to learn how to use both for fill and key. I have just received the light stands, radio triggers and umbrellas so I can attempt to go further. It has been a challenge for me to select equipment to learn with. I preferred to not purchase the higher cost items, thinking I could upgrade later whatever is needed. My email is jroik@outlook.com
Yes, try the first couple see the general format and you can see if you are comfortable. I didn't plan to cover using the built in flash but using a speed lite attached to the camera. I
