A snowy waterway

@sianipops challenged me to post some pictures following the rules of composition as stated in an article she linked me to. One of the things the article says is you should try several pictures using one of the points. THe one I like (and have noticed in my personal stash I use) is lines that draw you into the picture. I was out at noon to try to get the most of any warmth (it was 18F) so the snow is washed out. It was a pretty little scene.
@sianipops Two tries today. Two much sunshine, too little warmth. I'll keep trying.

No, there's still detail in the snow Joan and the sky hasn't burned out, it's rather the trees and bushes that are underexposed, which is only what you would expect. (Fixable if you shoot in RAW).

@vignouse I meant to change to that but I got distracted by the beauty and peacefulness of the drive. But I'll go change to Raw now so I don't have to remember later.

@joansmor Why not shoot in both and have the best of both worlds - under the Shooting Menu set the D90 for RAW & Jpeg Fine. Then you can choose what you want to do.

@vignouse I did choose that. I have used it before and turned it off when I was taking a bunch of pictures playing with various settings.

Joan I can feel that beautiful crisp air and that quiet, peacefulness. Looking at this I feel that being there would give me and even better view of the leading line - I sometimes wish I had a frame or framed glasses to wear when walking around to be able to see as the camera does. I struggle with getting my composition in camera and sometimes it is just beyond whichever lens I am using capabilities - sometimes changing position - getting low can help tremendously.
Oh I wonder if that AE lock button would help with the exposure on the trees. I'll try see if I can find the challenge recently for this - I had never known about it till they posted the challenge.

Joan have a look at this, I think it would definitely help when out shooting against the bright white snow. Katie @archaeofrog is a great 365er to follow. She has recently published a photo book and has a weekly blog/newsletter with great information.

@sianipops I think that is an age old problem. We cannot put the picture we see into the small frame of the camera and experience frustration because we want others to see what we see. I will look at the reference from Katie. It may be this weekend. I haven't taken a picture today and have a busy day tomorrow. So I need to check the word of the day and see if I can make it work.
