This highly criticised apartment block was built in 1962 on McMahons Point which sticks out into the middle of Sydney harbour. It has magnificent views especially east of the bridge and opera house. There were to be many more built but the public disliked this one so much that the plan was abandoned.
Well, it may indeed not be very attractive live, but somehow your photograph of it sort of beautifies it. I bet the views from the building is amazing. And probably only haters who didn;t buy apartments up there said they should dislike the building... :D
@johnfalconer I understand. I don;t know how it looks on site. But to be very very honest, from my point of view, the building in this one https://365project.org/johnfalconer/365/2021-01-11 is no better or worse than the one in the current image. A bit different, as it seems all glass.
And we are now concentrating on the exterior aspect of the buildings, not their use.
I like the shot of it in black and white- it does seem to make the building a little more attractive than it really is. The 60's had such an odd conglomeration of architectural styles. I can see why people disliked it- most likely because it took away from the beauty of the harbor, but the views from it sound wonderful. I don't know how it looks in color but I wonder if there would be a way to beautify- however it would probably cost way too much! Great black and white!
I am a bit ambivalent to its ‘beauty’. I think it looks like telephone exchange to me!
It’s 24 or 25 floors and built on one of the most prominent points in Sydney harbour.
