Home Sweet Home

The (mostly completed) new coop and run. There is an battery timed and controlled door that hasn't been installed yet. The door last used on the old coop that was left in Maryland. The door will make 'putting' the hens to bed at dusk much easier. I will be on 'chicken duty' this coming weekend as my friend will be traveling so I will need to learn how to wrangle the girls and get them into their enclosed bed - the bright green part on the left.

We have found out that these hens really like the grapes that are growing in my yard. I plan to bribe them if need be.
More work for you but it does sound like a bit of fun too. Glad you have a plan in mind to bribe them in for the night. :)

Great work :)

This is probably a very difficult task, even with bribery.

Very interesting coop and run.

Good luck with your wrangling. Are you raising the chickens for eggs?

A nice chicken coop

What a cool coop. We are afraid to have chickens here because of coyotes

I hope the hens like their new home. And the cats, too, of course. Good luck on chicken duty.

Eggs for breakfast then?

@gardencat @christinav @haskar @marlboromaam @k9photo @joansmor @corinnec @jgpittenger @eudora @keramin Thank you so very much. Several of our neighbors have chickens. There is a bobcat who has been known to visit the area but so far only a visitor. My friend, who is staying with us for a year, traveled all the way across country with 3 hens and two cats. It must have been an interesting journey. There is an electric/automatic door which we will be installing this weekend so having to wrangle the hens into their night time coop will be much easier.

It will a little while until we get fresh eggs as the hens are just getting through their molt. Next, is training Riley (my dog) to let the hens be and not get them all riled up. We are currently keeping her out of this area near the coop.
