Salmon Watch by joysabin

Salmon Watch

I have volunteered to learn more about Salmon and their habitat and life cycle. ( https://worldsalmoncouncil.org/salmonwatch/ ). The Salmon numbers have been dropping over the past century and an effort if being made to educate and inform about this sad fact. Hopefully since the young kids are the target of this information there will be more people that become passionate about saving Salmon. I had a wonderful time and didn't freeze at all.
I ventured out into the cold yesterday at Clemens Park near Alsea. This shot, taken on the bridge over the Alsea River gives an idea of cold it was. There were high school kids who helped lead things who had already learned how to teach the various groups. I learned a great deal.
We do no a very salmon centered 4th grade year here and have since I started teaching in 1989. Hatching salmon in the classroom and releasing them in the local streams in the spring. Writing a salmon lifecycle report and doing field trips with rangers.
