Carmen used to play guitar for our son when he was a newborn, and he saw her play a show with her old band in Spain over this past summer. But tonight he really got it. After discovering his brother’s broken and woefully out of tune Elmo guitar, a gift given long ago to Justin by Nonnie and Papa, Diego has really been interested in making music. Seeing him march through the house and set it down every few feel to play encouraged me to pester Carmen to break out her own guitar to play for Diego. She did do, much to his incredible interest and delight, and a musical bond was forged between mother and son that I hope will live on for countless years to come. Music was a profoundly important aspect of my fiancée’s life growing up and sadly she rarely plays now. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for mother and son that she start up again - although not just for them! I too love watching Carmen play! There is little in life that impresses me more than people who can play music, and Carmen’s playing and singing are two of my absolute favorite things.
