Super Shoreditch

A big day today. My nest is now empty. We took Adam down to London to his student accommodation and apart from a hiatus when the Sat Nav abandoned us in the middle of a very busy junction we had a really good run in through Hackney and other areas I've never really seen before (all pretty gentrified these days). We were all very happy to find some lovely flat mates already installed and that the residence is pretty much right in Shoreditch - haunt of many a 365 London meet and very trendy indeed. An added bonus was a very straightforward journey over to Central St Martin's. In the middle of the night (from a party somewhere!) Adam sent me a message saying how lucky he was - he couldn't really remember why this morning...
Anyway - this is Coronet Street being dressed for filming - I think the borough keep several of these streets in a state suitable for film sets - a good money earner and also great for the neighbourhood.
Fabulous historic old area - he is lucky indeed. Glad it went well - he'll be sporting those ironic beards and yellow trousers before you know it - well you do want him to fit in don't you?

@boxplayer Well it will be a sparse ironic beard if he does. Though I did look at him in an unshaven state and panic a bit as it seems to be filling out! Great area - I'm looking forward to him getting to know it really well - I think we will be required to visit and furnish him with over-priced burgers etc every so often.

My nest tried to be empty for a few hours a day a few days of the week but then preschool and school bugs filled it again......hope it feels okay soon!

@newbank I'm used to him being away for a few days at a time but I think it will be really hard in a couple of weeks time. A bit 'on the edge' at the moment. Adam said, 'We don't need tears yet because I'm coming home for my laptop' and I went from fine to crying in a millisecond! And Rachel went back to Brum early as well which was the nail in the coffin!

Looks like you will have some fun places to visit at least

@judithg I'm dreading those days.....The only benefit to poorly 3 year olds is that they stop being so grown up and want lots and lots of cuddles.

I thought the same as @boxplayer when I saw Adam's photo yesterday, how long will he look like a regular A level student living in Cambridge to a trendy art student living in the depths of trendy Shoreditch? I give him six months before long hair & beard appear!
He is so lucky being able to get to know London intimately & all the free galleries & theatre on offer. It's surprising how enterprising these students can be regarding free ish tickets ! Dry your tears Judith , you have done a great job with your two!

I did laugh at "I'm coming home for my laptop". ;)
Keep smiling.

Well you've really done well by your two. This looks an incredibly trendy place to be living. Wish him well and we'll look forward to some interesting shots from you.

Now I am humming the Bells of ......! I expect that this is the start of many parties and probably many such messages of appreciation to you!

Fascnatiing. Empty nesters now, huh? It took us awhile to get used to it but, after so many years now (our kids are in their late 40s and have their own families now) we love it.

the wobbly cart makes the image stand out, I am sure you will adjust to an empty nest OK and then need to re-adjust back for the christmas vacation and then readjust back in the new year. The family "wallet" might not re-adjust for a few years :)
