Third in a series, I am playing with my 50mm lens to see what the range of possibilities are. As I study other people's 365 albums, I see abstract images that are striking -- but I had no clue how they achieved that look. So after asking around and getting quick tips, I played with my own "familiar subject" that I have now posted both to my extra and main albums on February 1 and here I post my first abstract attempt. I like the fact that you can still see the stripes in the quilt faintly running through the entire abstract image, giving it a grid to hold it all together.
PS I've uploaded this three times but for some reason, the uploaded image turns out more "muddy" looking and I'm disappointed in how it looks on this site :( I wonder why . . .
And here's a link to the image of the quilt shot "straight on."
Interesting abstract. Is it one of your quilts behind this? I did see somewhere that the colour profile you save with your pictures can be the reason for "muddy" results. Someone is bound to correct me but I believe that rather than use Adobe RGB (1998) you should be using sRGB instead.
@steampowered -- thanks, and yes, it's a quilt I made a number of years ago when I took a "Kaffe Fasset quilting class."
Regarding the Adobe info -- that's a lot of technical info. I use Aperture, and there's a setting for RGB but I'm not sure what sRGB is and I just looked but couldn't find it. Plus, the photo looks brighter on my computer but it's when it's uploaded into 365 that it takes on a more muddy look.
@jyokota Hi Junko. There is a wealth of info on the web. Here is Apple's take on the matter plus a description on how to change the colourspace to sRGB in Aperture. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2026

@jodimuli -- thanks! :)

@145lewis -- I can see you creating great abstractions!
