Who would drive through a park for a sightseeing excursion in the dark? Well, what you get to see on such a drive is this: numerous picnic pavilions from the early 20th century, sports fields, farmer's market space, and . . . architectural ruins. Apparently, a park is not complete without "ruins" so park founder and donor Henry Shaw took remnants from Lindell Hotel, destroyed by fire in 1867 and assembled them in his park in line with the popular European tours of the time to such places.
You really got around! :) Although we drove by Tower Grove Park, no time to stop, so I am delighted to see this.... a wonderful nighttime image with a lovely reflection.
@jgpittenger@maggiemae@cgribben@agedrunner@northy@fntngrma@rosiekerr -- thank you all for your visits and comments! I do love nighttime photography, and is probably my favorite "genre." I wondered about "blacking out" the background on the right side, as it initially seemed to detract from the centerpiece, but I left it in as the realistic setting -- it's a pretend ruin in the middle of an otherwise city park. Yet blacking out the entire background would have made the "ruins" more dramatic. Any thoughts?
@rosiekerr -- I remember you driving me by this park, and pointing it out as some place we could drive through on the way back, but the delightful surprise that we could go to the botanic garden for the light-up completely took precedence. And I'm so glad. What a wonderful time we had! Already looking forward to the next one.
@jyokota On the "thoughts" part: I would have blocked them out, because I am a "symmetry" nerd. It has everything to do with my line obsession and not much to do with the photo. :) For me, I would have cropped it at the middle of the arch (on the right).
On the general part: I had a great time! Would love to host another visit. Everyone lives in a "target-rich" environment, but it is fun to host other willing visitors in your home town. I would be delighted to do this again, any time. :)
