The boat tour we took of the volcano spewing lava into the ocean took us dangerously close to the lava. That's @taffy on the left side, no doubt with a camera in front of her. It was really scary because of the intense heat and the rocking of the boat and the popping of hot lava rocks onto the boat. I'm not posting this because it's photographically good but because it's amazing documentation of how close we were!
This does look awfully close to the fire!
On a volcano crater tour in Hawaii our guide had special soles on his shoes and walked perilously close to the hot lava beds and crevices. We thought he was crazy. I guess when you live around them, day in and day out, you get comfortable and don’t think of them as that dangerous.
@cwbill Thanks, and yes!
