I went to New Orleans for an intense and wonderful committee meeting that was the culmination of months of reading and piles of books all over my house. At a restaurant where we celebrated the winning titles, the stemmed glasses were placed behind the bar in a way that looked to me an art installation. The ones you could reach were larger in number, but I thought the overlap beautiful.
Cropped enormously (probably down to 25%) to get rid of the restaurant scene, desaturated the little bit of color there was, and chose "fine art" in silver efex.
@maggiemae -- I was there for work (modified the description above). I used to go to New Orleans every few months to help fund school libraries after Katrina, and altogether I have been there probably 25 times? But always for work. Some day I should go to play!
@dide -- I do consider myself lucky, picking out the gems in the sea. But you should see how that sea converts my house into what @Taffy calls "a UPS delivery station" (united parcel service). There are boxes and boxes and piles and piles of books.
As for a read aloud recommendation for 8 - 10 year olds from this set, The Journey by Sanna is probably the most appropriate. Thought provoking book on refugee flight from danger, through danger, with hope.
So beautiful Junko! You have such a good eye for seeing art in an ordinary setting! You have such an interesting life involved with children's literature. I remember your fabulous library full of the most wonderful children's books! Breathtaking! Love these glasses! Fav!
@julzmaioro@dide -- what's also fun is when the world wakes us and first you get comments from one part of the globe, then as the hours pass, the comments stem from across the time lines!
Love the image. Love your committee's picks. I'm heading to New Orleans on the 22nd for the Association of Independent School Librarians conference. Haven't been there since I was first married. Can't wait!
Beautiful composition, like how the top row almost seems superior over the crowded rabble, but don't tell the snobs up top that they have less character than the bottom. :):)
Great edit of the glasses! I love the design in many restaurants but low
light often makes it difficult to get a good shot. You're so lucky to be able to travel for work and pleasure.
Not only a great image, Junko, but a great thread! I have not left the sofa all day...must get better before you get back! So I didn't make it to Evanston...Jim did...maybe Monday? Anyway, your photo here is very artistic!
Head still spinning with whatever you did, all that materes to me is that I like the final interpretation! If you wanted to print this it would probably show every imperfection, but online you can get away with things the online viewer would never notice! So faving this, because it pleases me!!!
