Danbo is short for DanbÅru -- which means cardboard box in Japanese. Danbo originally debuted in April 2006 in the Japanese comic series Yotsuba by Kiyohiko Azuma. Created as a science project for school by her friend, Miura, Yotsuba immediately assumes Danbo is a real robot. Danbo's rise to popularity followed Revoltech's making of a series of cardboard box figures with movable limbs that allowed positioning and therefore, meaning through poses. The first ones were made of cardboard boxes of brands popular in Japan, but the Amazon version seems to have universal appeal. When I purchased my Danbo originally, I could have chosen from all the different cardboard box versions but I chose Amazon, and now the others are very hard to find. This size came with the interchangeable head so you could see the girl who created Danbo, as if she were wearing the robot costume, and the eyes can be switched on as lights on the Danbo head. My RBD (Really Big Danbo as @taffy has named him since she had the original big one) is also Amazon. But all the other Danbos I own are from Japan and are plain boxes: https://365project.org/jyokota/365/2018-01-24
The Star Wars Aerogarden residents do not know this story, so they were very distressed to see Danbo with a different head.

Love this, but then I would. I am a huge Star Wars fan!
