New Year's Fireworks by jyokota

New Year's Fireworks

Here's to the start of Year 10! Taffy and I are sitting together and reminiscing how we started Project 365 by trying to shoot fireworks on January 1, 2013. We had wobbly tripods that looked like pencils extended with rubber bands, we had no idea what we were doing, but we braved the snowy and icy steps to go to her rooftop and take our first shot. It ended up that we couldn't even see the fireworks so we took a grainy photo of the city.

Today, the weather is misting and very foggy. We walked down to the river front and tried capturing the 1.5 minutes of fireworks along the river. It went by so fast we didn't have time to think or adjust! But here it is, our Happy New Year Fireworks shot. They were shot off the bridges that cross the Chicago River, and suddenly there was a waterfall over the side of the bridge under the fireworks. Dramatic!

Best wishes for 2022 to all, with appreciation for the wonderful 365 community we have enjoyed for so many years. We have learned a LOT by being part of this community!

Happy New Year! I remember when I started following you and Taffy I believed (still do) that you two are 365 rock stars! I love this photo and I love both of your first photos. I look forward to your posts this year.

Wonderful memories of 365 years and fab meet-ups in Chicago! Where have the years gone?

It is fun to remember things we have seen and done. Photos are the best memory of that. When I am not sure what year I did something I look in my photos. I don't mean the big trips but lots of little things.

you only trail two years behind me. it's nice you were able to catch fireworks. we had a thicker than cream soup fog i can't even see the building across the street and there were no booming sounds so i suppose nobody did fireworks. nice to see the familiar sights in chicagoland; indeed brings back memories of our 2019 sojourn that feels like a lifetime ago.

here's hoping the best of 2022 for you, and looking forward to the next meet up! (if ever this pandemic ends at all). cheerios!

I love that you captured that sudden waterfall off the bridge -- and the soft colors of the green reflected throughout. What a wonderful tradition we have to photograph our first images of the year together!
