Trinità dei Monti church in the bacckground. I'd never considered photographing flowers in monochrome but when that's all your camera takes, you get monochrome flowers!
Oh this takes me back! I was propositioned on those steps by an Italian man (I declined) while I was trying to get my breath back after being mugged on a nearby river bridge! It was a mad trip. January 1991. Looooong time ago.
I quite like this in monochrome and can see the colours in my imagination.
@casablanca I'm so sorry to bring back your trauma! But you understand my situation -- when you have been robbed and you are trying to reground yourself! My friend who told me to immediately buy a new camera and start photographing was right because it helped me get from feeling violated to feeling empowered.
@jyokota Absolutely right. Picking yourself up again and refusing to let that person continue to make you hurt - it is a good way to move through it. Well done you. It doesn’t bother me now. So long ago. All the best to you ❤️📷
@jyokota what is this about being robbed and needing a new camera? Did someone take your Canon R? What camera shoots only monochrome images? I guess I’ve been out of touch with what is happening with you. Interesting tones on your images… almost like sepia.
@kvphoto It was traumatic at the moment, it made me feel vulnerable and sad to lose my Canon R5 and 70-200/2.8, my most favorite lens I have ever had. My camera I bought is the Leica Q2 Monochrome and it's a fixed lens so no fiddling around. The sepia tonality is a setting that works within Monochrome. I can do straight black and white, too, of course, but I'm still learning the camera. I shot only in this Sepia setting for the duration of my Italy trip.
@jyokota so sorry for your troubles… I can’t imagine being robbed and can only imagine how vulnerable you would feeI. Hopefully you can get another one some day. Hopefully you got a good deal on the Leica… their lenses were always top notch.
I got a new camera (Sony A7RV) and a new lens (Sony 100-400mm Gmaster) I love back in November and I have really enjoyed both so much. I still have a lot to learn about this camera but am enjoying every moment. Thanks for your reply.
@kvphoto@robz Thank you both for your empathy! Not only did I immediately get another camera to use and challenge myself with a whole new style of photography, I have now replaced the stolen camera (but not yet the lens) because I was going on a couple of landscape trips this summer and needed a camera that shoots color and has interchangeable lenses. Now I'm sending police reports to the insurance company, dealing with headaches like that. (My favorite part of the police report -- when I put it in Google translate -- is where it says 'she does not speak Italian so this entire report is made through a volunteer person who speaks English.)
@robz That is so kind of you -- thank you! and now to live up to those expectations :). Stay tuned -- 5 national parks in Utah up next. Then 6 weeks in Namibia and South Africa!
