Hi, Calli. What a beautiful portfolio. Your early shots were very nice, but they have really matured as time has passed. So many gorgeous shots and a real variety. Finding a challenge in quite difficult. So, mine will combine two parts.
First, I love the flower from yesterday and a lot f your b&w stuff. However, I think a bit more tonal range in this last would make it even stronger. I think Ansel Adams said that there were 10 tones, from pure black to pure white, that all needed to be in each photograph, or something like that. So that's the first part: b&w photography that balances all 10 tones from pure white to pure black.
The second part comes from an old film assignment. It's easier with digital, but still makes you think. Try to capture a single scene that encompasses a 5 f-stop range. Both ends of the range should be properly exposed as well. Shooting on Manual is preferred.
So, in short a b&w image with a correctly exposed 5 f-stop range that balances all 10 tones including and between pure white and pure black. Now that's a mouthful, but I hope an interesting challenge.
@egoodling Erik, what a great challenge, Ansel Adam's tonal range work is something I have been thinking of finding out about but haven't yet.
I am a bit unclear on what you mean in the second part,
@egoodling I am doing some research and I think I get it, my problem is that my camera barely has 5 stops, and defaults to 3.4 and 8 at lightest and darkest, so maybe I will have to narrow to less stops?
