Holy Grail of Carousels

With very little time available at lunch, I decided to stop at Crescent Park for today's photo. My initial thought was to do a very close shot of the doors showing the wooden horses through the window. What captured my attention when I arrived, though, was this scene with the halo effect over the top of the carousel. I then noticed the bike rack in front of a sign that said "No bicycles allowed in this area" and I knew that had to be the photo. It plays to both my warped sense of humor and to my fascination with high contrast B&W.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
@tasian Thanks, Ken. That 16-35mm lens has really become my "go to" lens. I even use it for street photography now since it lets me get right on top of my subjects. It's funny when I look back at my lens progression. There was a time early in my photo days when I wanted very long lenses. Magnification was king. Now, I find that the wide angles are almost always on the camera. It's an interesting transition to say the least.
@kannafoot I'm the same way. I try to use a variety of focal lengths but find myself always going back to a wide angle. I'd say your shots are perfect for the wide angle view…very strong compositions and POV…looking forward to what you find next!
