Shredded

I went to the location of the old Crescent Park boardwalk, destroyed in 1954's Hurricane Carol, looking for interesting photo opportunities. It was low tied, so I was able to walk the beach a bit. This piece of driftwood leaning against one of the old boardwalk pilings caught my interest. One wonders what storm ripped that branch off a tree, but given the amount of shredding it was certainly violent. I love driftwood shots to begin with, and this branch had some interesting character that I thought would work well in black and white.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
