Beyond Repair

This old mill sits along the historic Blackstone Canal. It has long since fallen into disrepair, however, and the structure is no longer salvageable. It's another of the mills in the state that fell victim to the migration of the jewelry and textile industries to Asia. The property currently serves as a parking area for tractor trailers. Getting this photo required getting off the beaten path along the Blackstone River Bikeway and using a 400mm lens (200mm with 2x teleconverter) to pull in the details. Given the texture and contrast, though, it was an ideal subject for b&w.
Post processing started with a neutral filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and boost white. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
