So a few days ago, we noticed that one of the new goslings had gone missing. As the geese are so protective we were unsure if it was hiding under one of the geese sitting on eggs. We had found it there once before, after thinking it was missing.
The sad reality is that all the geese have been up and about today and still there is only one gosling. We have had a hawk flying around and our suspicions are that he has had gosling number two for lunch at some point in the last few days.
It's distressing to think of this kind of end to our cute gosling, but I guess the hawk needs to eat too.
On the plus side the one gosling we have left is getting bigger by the day. However it is becoming increasingly harder to photograph him due to the disappearance of his sibling.
@angelunderwater It is sad. Sorry to hear that your friend lost some chickens recently. @hermann It is a shame, but it's the circle of life and death in the animal world I guess. @sangwann It is sad, but nature is definitely like this. We are hopeful that this one will survive, but you just never know. This image is taken on our property and we just love our animals here :), so thank you for the lovely comment about the beautiful rural scene. We definitely love it.
