A general fiction that was beautifully written but had no real plot or character development
A Christmas story for book club that gave me a few laughs but the plot was disorganised wth unlikable characters
A beautiful looking book and an easy read but the characters were irritating and unrealistic.
A womens fiction that was an enjoyable read
A mystery thriller that was not up to the usual standard from this author.
I'm so impressed that you read the entire book even when you don't like it and that you can read 5 books in a month. I am putting the Book club book on my "to read" list. Sounds like a good one.
@randystreat If I'm hating a book I will certainly ditch it but if its only ok, I keep reading in the hope it gets better plus even if its only ok I still want to know how it ends up. The bookclub book is the first by Sophie Green, I've heard all her books are good reads.
Oh that doesn't sound like a top reading month 😕 Happy New Year and thanks for all your active following, looking forward to more of your images in 2024!
@onewing@johnfalconer I totally feel you. I rarely give up a book. I do, sometimes. Any book is a good read. We must not always read only the masterpieces. That would cause a lack of a fair range for comparison. The wider the range, the better the appreciation. And yes, we don't have to like the same books. Isn't that great?
For the books I consider best I usually go to goodreads and read the worst reviews they get. It's fascinating to see how others perceive the same stuff. It's brilliant that there is such a variety in perception. Sometimes it is eye opening. It is equally fascinating to see how some people seem to be morons and they flag it so that everyone see that :D But that's just the fun part.
I really like Kathy's mini-reviews, how she manages to summarize her ideas in a line. Again, something I am unable to do. Actually, I don't even follow how the plot is constructed, or how the characters build up. I seldom think if a character is believable or not. I seem to stick to the enjoyment part of reading. I judge books by their magnet: do I feel 'away' when I put the book down? Do I think of anything else than getting back to the book? Is it a book that I intentionally put down often and read it slowly so that it lasts longer? Or do I put it down often because it does not get my attention?
@johnfalconer Yes, but I only look at those after I read the book. So as to avoid bias.
I also look at some before purchasing a book. When I am not sure the book is worth the money, then I check the negative reviews.

I like the idea of looking for not so good reviews. At the moment I read books lent to me by my daughter!!
