I made the switch about 4 years ago from a PC. If you're switching from PC to Mac, do you know about "Switching to the Mac: the Missing Manual" - I found it really helpful at first, but didn't need it for long. Enjoy your new toy!
@reba - thanks Reba. I looked up that book and would love to buy it but I have Lion and that version hasn't been printed yet. I will get it when it comes out but I hope it is soon!
@kjarn I was wondering if they were already putting The Lion on the newest computers. Guess they'd have to or no one would be buying them right now. I'd bet there'll be a Switching manual out for that really soon - they keep up pretty well as I recall.
@kjarn Stick with it, it's well worth it. One thing you have to remember when you're using a Mac - don't overthink it. If it's confusing, that's only because you're so used to Winblows which did tend to do things the long and convoluted way. With a Mac, there's always a simple way to do it. Google is your friend, here, as is MacTalk http://www.macusers.org/
As for iPhoto, once you're used to it you'll wonder how you ever did without it. Don't upgrade to Aperture - it's absolute rubbish and the benefits don't outweigh the pain.
I used Macs creatively (for photos and movies) for many, many years. I only changed out because I wanted to take part in the OpenSource community. If you need a hand drop me an email at gettinmymaileymailon[at]gmail.com and I'll do what I can to help.
@brizmako - thank you so much Alan. I will check out the link and even if I don't have a question I want to drop you a line just so I can use that super cool email address :-)
@kjarn if you don't have anyone to answer your questions and can't find them in the help menu or online, shoot me an email and maybe I can help. rays365project@me.com
It's pretty, but I'll stick to my HP... I tried someone's Mac once and couldn't even figure out how to go online with it.... I can use a Mac laptop though. Not sure why. I don't find the PC using long and convoluted ways to get things... I can bounce around pretty fast. I do hope you enjoy your new computer and that you don't get too frustrated.
@brizmako - I'm slowly getting there although I think I'm doing everything the long and difficult way. I've ordered a "how to" book so hopefully that will help when it arrives.
@kjarn - hmmmm. Don't know what that is. You'll have to give me a tour on Tuesday.
