This follows on from photo 'barely on a limb'
Beside Jordan's head you can clearly the claw marks in the trunk of the tree.

A common method used for attempting to determine if koalas are using an area - searching for these telltale claw marks and then for scat under the tree :)
As you might imagine my trees are covered in these claw marks!
They must have very strong claws to be able to grip because the trunks look very smooth.

Alia, do keep your eye out, once you have seen them they are really easy to identify. Their claws are incredible really - very long and strong and they often leap up a sheer trunk. When a mum does it with a joey on her back it's heart stopping!
