Dewdrop has progressed from stomach riding to back riding :) This is the same mum and joey as yesterday - what an overwhelming response to that photo, I'm thrilled you all enjoyed so much!
@fbailey usually around 2.5kg old, which is around 12 months. It's kind of a combination of weight, age, and whether mum has been mated again. This joey is around 8-9 months old, so there is going to be rapid growing and especially development of muscles!
You can actually see in the posture of this joey that arm muscles are being strengthened right now - joey has to hold on with the arms, and the legs kind of support and balance. The arms are the strongest part of a koala, so back riding is designed to develop these muscles :) thanks for asking!
