I just love the colour of this shroom, let alone the fab underside textures. The rain is giving some great fungal results in the rainforest :) thank you for the awesome comments and questions on my photos
@vignouse@fbailey this one is not huge like the other flat weird one, but a great colour. I have no idea Richard, I'm going to post it into the fungi fb group I'm in and I will find out - I suspect that colour means NOT :)
@jenp great question :) koalas eat a very small range of eucalyptus leaves. They eat a very small handful of other species just a little of the time, like one of the paperbark trees, but their range of trees is quite narrow. This is one of the reasons they are in so much trouble as their habitat is highly specialised and localised.
Just another note of interest (well it is to me haha) is that eucalyptus leaves are very low on calories. The koalas have to eat a huge amount of them just to maintain their bodies and they stuff themselves totally full at each meal, then have to sleep in order to digest all that tough leaf. That's why they can sleep 18 - 22 hours each day.
@s4sayer@vignouse Hortiboletus rubellus, commonly known as the ruby bolete. Apparently you can eat it! But it's reported to taste like soap ... mmmm don't think I will bother, I got some nice portobellos at the shops today that sound way better!
