The final from this shoot. I took a combination of photos and video. It is rare to see footage of one so young, so I feel privileged that Maxine was totally relaxed at my presence.
It is not so rare to get footage of back young once they are a month or so older than this fella (except that it's rare to see a wild koala at all, so it's all subjective really hahaha - just rare, or extremely rare?)
Thank you for enjoying this wonder of nature with me.
Great images but the video got me watching with abated breath , so scary yet funny at times , What a tolerant and wise Maxine - giving him the opportunity to discover his way around ! A fav for the video
@shutterbug49 I sure do - she was only a sub-adult when she arrived here and has raised 2 female joeys so far - Stella in 2017, Dewdrop in 2018 and now this little fella :) so I think she is feeling pretty confident with handling him indeed!
Stunning! Maxine is a great mum & joey is gorgeous, loved the tiny pink toes...I held my breath a few times there & had lots of warm smiles especially as joey was trying to find the pouch..Big Fav
@fbailey yep I often find I'm holding my breath watching them up in the tree tops! In this video she was in a smaller tree, only about 10 metres from the ground, but still a fall for joey would very likely be fatal. they don't really fall if they are healthy :)
@koalagardens I hope he stays that way! So how big do you estimate he is now - about 9"? I really have no idea about the full size of an adult koala. 2 ft maybe?
@koalagardens yes he would be around 8 - 9 " long. An adult grows to closer to 3 ft long. I would imagine this fella weighs around 650-750g. Nature is a marvel :)
