I've managed to get a little behind, so this is from some days ago when the local fires were bad as the sun was sinking towards the hills to the west of here. Terrible amount of fire activity very early and no rain in sight.
Thank you for the awesome comments and questions on my photos.
It’s a gorgeous photo with the gold and the silhouette. I hope the fires go away soon. Do you have goats? Our community has been hiring goats that get moved around to eat all the dry vegetation in the open areas. It keeps the fires from getting close to houses, but it can’t be done everywhere.
@shutterbug49 some people do have goats but it's not that simple here I'm afraid. one of the out of control fires at the moment is in a national park and is covering an area of 48,500 hectares while another not too far south is covering 78,600 hectares.
And that is just 2 of the 50 odd fires in the state of NSW alone just now.
I certainly don't have goats on my property as I have a conservation agreement on it to restore native vegetation - but there is an area around my house that is not under the agreement that is kept clear of serious fire threat type species for the most part.
We do have a lot of fire education here about how to attempt to keep your home as fire safe as possible. However with the escalating heat and dry conditions every year, things are going to get pretty serious!
@gardencat thank you, we are sure hoping for a lot of rain, but it's not seeming likely as climate change means we will just get hotter and drier every year. It doesn't explain all the koala movement as that started back in July - but the changes to the climate are having a lot of ramifications. Thanks so much for asking :)
