the blue sky is for my rainbow, and this female garden orb is because I just love these huge spiders who spin webs that could just about wrap me up. Notice her hopeful mate in the lower left corner? There were several males in her web, and they have to wait til she catches something and then run in and try to mate her while she is busy eating.
Nature is insane really :)
@30pics4jackiesdiamond she is about an inch in the body length, so pretty huuuuge. the webs can be about a metre across, but stretch across a gap that is several metres so it pays to watch out riding the quad bike! not that they are poisonous to humans, but those big webs really feel disgusting as they stick across the entire face ....
the fires are all out, with the rain during Jan and Feb they were stopped. the death toll from the result of the drought/fire/deluge however goes on still. our wildlife are still in a lot of trouble, but yeah it's not as news-shocking now as the pandemic.
the pandemic in fact is causing many logistical nightmares as we try to keep shifts going to both collect leaf and provide care to the koalas as more and more people are forced into isolation.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond wow that's insane. I am on a community advisory group to the hospital here (before all this started) and we had a teleconference yesterday about the state of things.
Australia is trying to really 'flatten the curve' but I can tell you that the last 24 hours we have had a bit of a surge.
I hope your friend stays safe.
I'm self-isolating as I can, and definitely distancing where I can't completely isolate. Fortunately I do most of my work across the internet so can continue to earn and pay my mortgage.
@jgpittenger put it this way Jane - if she is eating, he can run in, mate her, run away, and she won't know a thing hahahaha I believe these spiders display the largest amount of sexual dimorphism of any animal we know
@gardencat and you can be sure their favourite place to build them is right across a bend in a path I ride along, so it really does pay to keep my attention forwards even while I'm looking up for koalas hahaha they are strong and sticky webs
How's the fire situation now ( Covid-19 now hogging the news

Stay safe yourself Katrina x

Beautiful shot with that blue sky.
