@koalagardens I think it is called a thumb and not a finger or toe because of the range of motion and the function of that digit. Your thumb allows you to grip around something instead of just over the top of it, be it a branch you are hanging onto, or a spoon you are holding. So that digit is prehensile - allowing them to grasp, therefore not a normal toe or finger I would think?
