I wonder what purpose it serves. In humans it seems to be a not very necessary organ but given the amount of territory allotted to it in a koala it must serve some purpose for them.
Well, you need that much appendix room when you're digesting those tough eucalyptus leaves! Cool fact- I think human intestines are pretty long too- and that's where a lot of our digestion takes place as well.
