Remembering My Grandpa

My Sunrise shot from earlier this week made #1 on the Top Twenty list... wow!! I'm honoured and excited. Thank you all for your comments and favs!!

Today is Remembrance Day which always makes me think of my grandfather. His war story fascinates me and makes me proud! Several years ago I decided to research his WWII history and I managed to find several newspaper articles that included his name and story. This is him and part of his history.

One of the many unsung heroes. Thank you for sharing such a personal and interesting experience. I remember the husband of my mum's aunt who was in the merchant navy, having three ships in which he was serving sunk and him having to keep afloat in the midst of burning flotsam till he was rescued. He lived to be an old man and died of natural causes.

@maggiemae I think he was in his late 30s in this photo. I know he was on the 'old' side. He volunteered to go. He died when I was in grade 8 (almost 35 years ago) from cancer.
