I took my son and nephew to Tofino yesterday for a whirlwind get away. Twelve and half hours from start to finish! They went surfing for the first time on the west coast (they had done it in Hawaii years ago). It was a three hour session that included the wetsuit and a lesson. They both did awesome! They got up over and over again!
@lesip@peadar I might have explained that poorly... 12.5 hours from start to finish. We left the house at 8am and didn't get home until 8:40pm. It's a solid 3 hour drive each way to Tofino from my house. It was totally worth it but it would have been nice stay over night there. I looked into getting a hotel but it was $450 plus tax so I opted to drive. The place is VERY popular in the summer!!
I love the silhouette and the blown out sparkles of light on the water. This is a great shot even of strangers, but how special that it is of your family members -- fave! I have always wanted to try surfing, but I am pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get up successfully. I have heard it's a tricky skill.
Super capture, Kim. The photo has all the energy of that moment at the surf's edge—the dazzle of the incoming waves, the sense of heat on a summer day, the camaraderie between cousins. And I love the tonal editing. Fav!
