I've shown you three shots from the "big" storm that happened Saturday night. At sea level we got lots of rain but half an hour away at Mount Washington ski Resort they got snow... 125cm (4') of snow in 24 hours. It was crazy up there!! They had to close the resort on Sunday because there was too much snow. The following day we had sun and thought we'd drive up and go snowshoeing. Unfortunately, although the downhill portion was open the nordic area was still closed. We went for a short walk about and then fed the Whisky Jacks. This is my husband offering up a bite of homemade chocolate chip cookie. The birds liked them.
If I'm not mistaken a Whisky Jack is also known as a Gray Jay. They're very friendly. I have a pic taken many years ago of my husband feeding a Gray Jay an apple from his hand. The Jay followed us along our hike. The bird was voted to be the national bird of Canada. Not sure it officially passed.
That's astounding! You walk into the wilderness and have birds flying up to you for food?!!! I can't imagine anything more fun! (Don't Laugh...as I first glanced at the caption, I'm thinking "Whisky Jack must be a local bird whisperer"!!!
