It's been a long day so here's my FB post from a few hours ago to explain...
'We're back at children's hospital today so Gage can start his new meds. Since his colonoscopy on Jan. 10th he's lost another 9 lbs. That's 14.5 lbs since mid December. I've been really worried the last few days because he's so skinny and hes had zero energy or apetite . The nurse and doctor were shocked when they saw him and they also reported that his heart rate was up. They suspect the oral prednisone he's been taking the last nine days is not being absorbed so he's been admitted!! He's about to get a ride from the medical Day unit (where he had his infusion) over to the new hospital in this picture. We're on the 8th floor in a lovely spacious room. We've got a big screen tv and he's got a PlayStation. There's a special menu that he can pick whatever he wants to eat. He's gettIng IV fluids now (I pushed for it because I think he's also somewhat dehydrated) and will get IV prednisone later. Looks like we'll be here 3-5 days. I'm not stressed - in fact I'm relieved. I'm so tired of fighting with him to eat, drink and take his meds. I know he will be a better patient for them than me. I'm confident this is where we need to be.'
Such a relief for you that your son's going to get a stay in hospital where they can monitor him and build him up a bit. You must have had a very worrying time recently.
A very worrying time for you and your family ... lets hope he gets back on track again .. That is an incrediable amount of weight for a teenager to loose. :(
Bless him, I hope he does well now he is in hospital. Cheering you and your family on, it's so worrying watching someone you love so poorly. Hope he picks up again soon.
So sorry that it has come to this , but on the other hand so relieved for you all that he is now in the best place for hopefully the right treatment and care to pick up and get better soom .Sending you all ,love and best wishes ! xx
oh my. well i sure am hoping that the hospital will really be able to help your son at last. all good wishes to him, and to all of you going through it with him :)
There just has to be a solution. Children's Hospitals are amazing places, I hope they can get him squared away very soon. Hope you have something better than a reclining chair to sleep on at night.
I want Gage to get well. He is a trooper for sure. I hope that the doctors' latest treatments turn into a full recovery for Gage. I will pray for Gage to get well.
Sounds like such a roller coaster life you lead ... and one I recognise to an extent. I understand the relief and hope you will get a chance to be free from worry for a while whilst the medics sort things out. Will be thinking of you.
a whole page worth of warm wishes from the 365 community. they are heartening to read and I am pleased to add my name to the long list of well wishers x
I'm so glad to hear you upbeat - I know this is the best plan right now and hopefully the first real step to getting a handle on this. Many many prayers for all of you.
Oh, my! Prayers. My husband did that once, lost a lot of weight in a few months, but his was overactive thyroid. Caused his heart rate to go way up and caused him to be really aggressive, but he was eating everything in sight.
Oh wow so sorry to hear your son is still ill..............so scary to watch your children continually loss weight! Your definitely in the right place for him to get the medical help he needs. Wishing you strength through this difficult time Kim. :(
I am so sorry to hear about your son and hope he feels better soon - it's awful when your children are so ill, it makes you feel helpless. Hopefully he is now on the mend
Well, I'm seeing this way after the fact so I'm glad to know there was some improvement. That must be so hard- to see your child in pain, to not know what's causing it, to not be able to take it for them... I can see in this shot he's so worn out but hopeful. Hang in there Gage- you're awesome!
This really tugs at my heart. But I'm happy he's somewhere that can help him get better. Wishing all the best for Gage and for your family as you all endure this rough time.
Even though he's probably feeling very unwell, It's so nice that he gave you a small smile for this photo . :)
I just did a recoup of your ordeal from most recent to oldest. Sorry I missed all your goings-on through this! I hope they are able to get Gage straightened out soon so you can all go back home!
