A super crappy iPhone shot but I need to document this day. Here's my FB post to explain...
Our Colitis journey continues... after 3 nights of virtually no sleep, increased pain and a SERIOUS desire not to eat or drink, I called our GI team this morning and said I needed help. While the nurse relayed the info to the doc and a plan was formulated, I packed our bags in anticipation of travel orders. Sure enough the call came in and we left half an hour later. We checked into the hospital at 6:30pm and promptly met with a woman I think I love - a student doctor that looks about 15 but actually verbalized the words "he is definitely dehydrated and in need of more calories." Despite all my pleas up to this point I never really felt these two issues were being properly addressed. At this point I'm most concerned with the fact my child is disappearing in front of me!! He will be getting an IV shortly with fluids and tomorrow we'll meet with a dietitian who is going to calculate the calories he needs to survive. He will either ingest them through his mouth or through a feeding tube if necessary. Gage is tired and trying to figure out our mute TV while he waits to get poked . I'm quite relaxed and looking forward to better things. We're on the opposite side of the hospital this time and the first thing I saw when I looked out our window was a ❤️ (do you see it?). I think it's a sign we're in the right spot and going to be okay.
@kwind Oh wow... tough times but what a lovely positive spin to your day! I love pictures that will bring back a strong memory, sometimes our lowest moments are the most special - not all of them but some are! I sincerely hope they find a way to manage your sons condition, at 14 I nearly passed away with what they thought was anorexia and found out it was giardia (parasite that was in the drinking water) but I believe it also triggered a genetic condition called ankylosing spondylitis, the reason I say this is that anything ending in "itis" is my life story - it has been hard at times but I have had a fantastic journey overall. Your son can find happiness and have a great future regardless of the challenges at the moment. I haven't really much knowledge of what is really happening but your post has really resonated with me for more than one reason - stay strong x
Hopefully you’ve found a team of doctors who can address this issues and get your son recovering. Oh I am so sorry that your son keeps suffering these set backs. How frustrating and heart wrenching. I’m reminded of an interview with a young woman who went through something similar after she was diagnosed, not addressing her diet issues. Not sure if this will help or not, but I thought I’d pass it along just in case. She found that eating gluten free helped allievate her flare ups tremendously. https://youtu.be/i7EeX3ZuIoY All my best to you and your son! Finger crossed and praying!
Sending lots of positive thoughts your way. I hope things start to look up for your family and son soon. I'm a believer of signs and see the heart too. I saw a few signs when my son when was in hospital too. I think these small symbols keep the mind positive sometimes. Best of luck with everything x
I hope this round is the time they figure it out and find some help and hope for your son. It's good to hear the hopefulness in your [written] voice and that you feel relaxed. We look forward to your update(s). And yes, from your view outside, maybe you're in the right place. Prayers for you all.
Such heartbreaking times watching your child suffer - I hope the heart is a positive sign too! My sister-in-law has just been through a year of tremendous stomach pains and lost 6 stones - it turns out to be dietary! Unbelievable watching the pain she went through but hopefully solved. I don't know if this is the same with your son but crossing everything for a speedy recovery
I love your shot and truly hope the Angel will be the one of mercy. May your family"s sufferings soon be taken care of. Sending positive thoughts your way and be strong :-)
I don't see the heart, but I do send lots of cyber hearts for you and Gage! I have a friend with ulcerative colitis and she has found that avoiding dairy products helps her enormously. It's such a minefield out there though and the first thing you want is for Gage to put on some weight and regain some of his teenage energy. I do hope that today is a good day for you both. xx
Oh no! My heart goes out to you all. I really hoped that things had turned a corner for you. I am keeping everything crossed that Gage will improve and you'll be able to move forward. xx
So sorry to hear you are back in hospital again - I really admire your positivity which must be a great source of comfort to your son. I see the heart!! And I'm keeping everything crossed that things start to improve. xxx
So sorry that Gage has had a setback. I do see that God has sent you an angel to watch over both of you and given you hope. Prayers are sent for you and Gage.
Oh gosh...what an awful situation for Gage and your family. Here's hoping the doctors are 'on it' and he is feeling better soon, and that you and he have some answers about effective disease management. Heartbreaking to see your child in distress!
Gosh, Kim, I'm so sorry for Gage's health problems. He is so fortunate to have you at his side during his medical appointments and hospital stays. I pray that a medical doctor can finally zone in on a treatment that will allow Gage to eat, gain weight and enjoy his teen years.
Far better than the last view Kim. That heart is watching over you & sending messages to you all. Do hope Gage is in good care there & you find the answer. ❤️
you bring tears. your strength is phenomenal. Sending all good wishes for a fast turn around. I don't see the heart but I love the fact that you see it.
I do see the heart . . . on the back of the figure riding on the bird. First I thought it was an angel. That's definitely a positive sign. Sending you and Gage positive thoughts and prayers that things will improve soon.
I don't see the heart, but I believe that you always see what you need to see. I am so happy that your son's illness seems to be properly sorted out this time.
You are sound more positive and I hope Gabe is improving. He must be so weak and tired from not eat and drinking that he probably doesn't have the strength he needs to fight this with you, hence is fighting against you. Your student doctor sounds wonderful. Big hugs and my fingers are crossed x
Just catching up on posts. Sad to hear Gage's issues continue. You are definitely in the right spot and you're a great advocate for him. Be strong, Kim. The squeaky wheel and all that stuff.
I am sorry to hear that there has been a set back with Gage and that you needed to travel back to the hospital. Hopefully this young doctor will be more proactive with the situation and you will see more positive results.
