A diary shot... the concrete footings were poured and stripped for the new house we are building for the kids. It’s for them to live in for a couple of years. But really it’s an investment for all of us. We put money into an education fund for the kids since birth. Neither will be going to university as it’s just not their thing. So we are using that big chunk of funds and then we’ll help them out with the rest. For tax purposes we will put the house in their name and when we sell it in a couple of years we will split the profits. The real estate market is crazy here. And having a husband and son who can do some of the work and with lots of building connections it will work out well for all four of us.
We have a general contractor but my men will be helping as much as they can when they are home to do so. Today father and son worked together!

@joansmor Basements are optional But they are not common here. If people have a two-story home, it’s generally all built above ground. We are building a rancher. They are very popular here and sell more per square foot than a two-story home. There are a lot of retirees in our community and many want all their living to be down on a single floor. They sell like hotcakes!
