Today my friend Bernard and I, together with his spaniel Daphné and Jasper, climbed to the Col d'Ouillat and had lunch at this restaurant, which is part of the first refuge on the GR10 hiking trail that follows the Pyrenees from the Med coast to the Atlantic. At 936m it is the highest Jasper has been, so he was rewarded with a bowl of water and a lick of the last of the excellent navarin d'agneau. The restaurant is just the French side of the border with Spain, and looks down on the pass of Le Perthus, the route used by Hannibal to take his army and his elephants towards Rome.
