A couple of people mentioned 'le petit train jaune' in comments on my recent photos from my break in the mountains, so I decided to take a photo of it on my journey home. The train rises up the valley of the Têt river to the Cerdagne plain, climbing nearly a mile. It is a major tourist attraction because of the spectacular scenery, and in summer they use the old open carriages, which you can see here. The Gisclard bridge is one of two spectacular bridges, and is named after the chief engineer of the project. Sadly he was killed during the initial trials of the line, when the brakes of a train failed and the carriages ran backwards out of control, eventually de-railing. @Cherrill@vignouse
Wonderful shot! We went on a petit train jaune, the same one that Renee Mackintosh (sp?) & his wife Margaret ktook - perhaps this one. (A previous holiday on the Mackintosh trail.)
