L'étang (French) = estany (Catalan) = estanque (Castillian Spanish) = tarn (Northern England) = tjern or tjärn or tärn or tjørn or tjörn (Scandinavia, Old Norse, Viking etc.). A body of water that does not have a river running to it or from it or through it, apparently. I've just been reading a forum discussion that quickly got very heated about the etymology.
The b&w landscape I took a few days ago was b&w on purpose, I meant it to be that way when I took the snap. This one is b&w by hazard, I couldn't do a decent edit in color.
