They are called 'vide-greniers', literally 'empty the attic', a sort of community yard sale and very popular here. Our village has one in Spring and another in Fall, and at the last one there were over 200 stands and it filled the entire rugby field and the adjacent municipal camping ground. Today our neighboring village, Sorède, had theirs, but only managed a pathetic 8 stands, barely filling the village square.
