On September 17,1849 Harriet Tubman escaped the Eastern Shore and made her 90 mile journey using the Underground Railroad to Pennsylvania. She spent over a decade helping other slaves escape and was a spy in the civil war. I finally stopped and visited the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center yesterday. It is located very close to the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge.
