those are all fishing boats, aren't they? such different sizes and so much more kit on some of those boats

@shannejw I see the red boat is LK985 haven't found anything any higher (yet!) There are 198 boats registered with an LK number. Out of contrast there are 495 registered in Plymouth but the average size for Lerwick is 91 tonnes while Plymouth is 19. There are also more fish landed at Lerwick and Peterhead together than the whole of England and Wales. Peterhead has about 3 times as much as Lerwick. Fishing is a huge industry here and these figures don't take into account the amount of farm grown salmon here.

I did know you had a lot of fishing in the Shetlands, and that Peterhead is the biggest fishing port. I was thinking of Weymouth, which is apparently the 10th largest port in Britain by landed value, mostly trading in crab and whelks, and to a lesser extent Poole. Poole has clam, cockle and oyster beds.

@shannejw The other thing to think about is that the biggest of the Shetland boats the Altaire while still skippered by a Shetlander is now 50% owned by a Southampton registered company.
