A dust storm in “The Big Empty”

West Texas is routinely called The Big Empty, it is flat and very windy there. The wind lifts sand off the plowed cotton fields and blows it for miles and miles. There’s nothing to stop it, no mountains and honestly, few trees. For the word today “empty”.
Nicely captured. That dust looks horrible

Having been through portions of Texas before I totally understand that definition. This is a really good depiction of it.

Wow- on so many levels! Although I know it's dust, it looks like fog and I love the way the road disappears into it. It must feel awful to breath this. Crazy I know, but it's a fav!

@sugarmuser @grammyn @olivetreeann @summerfield @onewing @joansmor @sdutoit @farmreporter @linnypinny @louannwarren @kwind @jgpittenger @lynnz @milaniet @happysnaps @ludwigsdiana @gilbertwood @777margo @beryl @momamo Thank you all so much, actually this is a small, rather usual dust storm. The big ones cover the whole sky, they are the ones we don’t drive in. They say the farmers have gotten better at plowing so they don’t lose as much of their top soil to the wind like they used to. This was taken leaving Lubbock last year on our way to New Mexico.

Yes pretty much how I imagine Texas to be like in parts...we always have pictures in our heads of how we imagine places to be ...this does not disappoint!

@ingrid01 @mittens @pistache @gijsje @bkbinthecity @carolmw @k9photo @happypat thank you all so much. I have a million memories and stories about dust storms while I was growing up in Lubbock in the 1950’s. They were just part of our lives, especially so in the springtime when the winds blew so hard. Your comments and faves are so great, thank you so much.
