This is the Illinois side of the Mississippi River, taken from the bluffs above Hannibal Missouri. Looking at National Weather Service web site, the river was about 4' over flood stage at this point on this day, which is classified as "minor" flooding. Moderate flooding is defined (at this spot) as 6' above flood stage.
We had pretty significant flooding in the spring this year my photo from May 7th, at Hannibal the river was 10' higher than this day. It seems the rivers have stayed at this "moderately" high level all summer. I think that's just the nature of a big river, it takes a long time to drain...
We haven't seen a lot of "impact" over the past 2-3 months, but we're 10+ miles from the river (and 125 miles south of Hannibal). there's still a lot of this type of trees-in-the-water-along-the-shoreline" type stuff.
Yikes, hope that isn't near your home. They had some street flooding near where I am staying on vacation before I got here so I worried about the rain yesterday.
Thanks all! I've updated the description with more information on the water statge.
