A Hottentot Fig........

as children we used to love these. Once the petals and centre have dried, it becomes a delicious sour fig. We used to love sucking out the sweet/sour syrup.Very popular for making jam too.

I wonder if this is the same as our pig face...a native plant that grows in many places including the sand dunes. such gorgeous colour

Ha I just asked Google and in regard to the hottentot fig and pig face they said :The genus includes some 12 to 20 accepted species. Most are South African, endemics, but there are at least four Australian species and one South American.
