But used to be so much worse. Born in 2008 he was rescued from abuse in the illegal pet trade in Romania. Most of the animals in this industry do not survive past their first year. The owners of Lion Park brought him here to his forever home.

Illegal pet trade in Romania? I presume it's for transit. We really don't have conditions for big kitties like that. And I do not see our interlopes to be as refined to think of keeping one of these. Very sad animal stories.
But I am relieved that big Tom here got away.
Beautiful capture. I can't understand why anyone would think that having a lion as a pet would be good idea! So glad that he he has a safe forever home.
@monikozi Each Lion had a bit of history on a board with a photo of him. The trade was all over Europe Moni, most of them were in Belgium zoos before they were freed. They all look rather sad as they spent too much time in captivity :-(
