These are the routes that my Mother took in 1929 all around the UK! I took the names from her diary and spent hours putting them into Google Maps then found it wasn't saving them properly, tried Google Earth but couldn't find how, finally into Mapquest. That also was a fiddly job and I had no help file. However it is now completed and totals 27122.25 miles!
She arrived at Tilbury Docks on 7th July and was back in London at the beginning of October 1929
Jan is right.... back in those days I shouldn't think it was something women often did..... well done your Mum and well done you for so painstakingly plotting and charting her travels.
I've always dreamed of hiring a campervan and touring right round the coast of Scotland, but that seems pretty unambitious now after seeing what your mum did!
@happypat Thanks Pat - it isn't what I really wanted - a finer line would be better. Individual areas are going to go in the right chapters for the book I'm transcribing from the diary.
@asutherland1964 I think so too - they had to get the brake adjusted often and fix a few punctures but thats all! Mum wrote that at one hill the car was being very slow and just couldn't make the hill - then she found she had the hand brake on!
Hi Maggiemae! Nice to see you again. Looks like you are investing top notch efforts in this coming book! What incredible detail and effort. You Mum would be proud.
@lesip It certainly does, Leslie! I have to google a lot for information about spelling and name places and Ive learnt so much as well as being fascinated!
What a wonderful project within a project you undertook with this! Great shot. It looks like she came near where I live, Worcester (though I actually live in Droitwich Spa)
What a fantastic photo that shows where your Mom traveled. Amazing that she and her sister did so much. How nice to know what she did and practically do the same as you go through her journal. You have done an amazing job.
