Addressing the Haggis

Some good friends and ex neighbours of ours were holding a party for a 75th Birthday and as they are Scottish and most of us are around here, they had the Ceremony of the Haggis. Complete with bagpipes and sword and a real haggis. The Scottish poem went on for about 8 minutes with a real scottish accent and was much appreciated.

Fair fa' yer honest sonsie face, great chieftain o' the puddin'-race :-) Great idea for a party!

I'm Irish and my mom is Scottish so I have a warm spot for anything Celtic/Gaelic! My favorite part about this shot is the lighting! Bright, crisp and super sharp! Love it!

@thendrix58 There was a white pagola up above the main part which reflected good light - otherwise it was a dull and cloudy day Terry!

I'm sure it was a wonderful occasion. I love bag pipes.
February 24th, 2013
Oh wow I have never seen a haggis before. Did you eat some?
February 24th, 2013
@carolinedreams The Haggis in Dunedin is not made out of internal organs etc - its very nice - like spiced pate!

@maggiemae sounds quite yummy!

Perfect capture, bagpipe, kilts and haggis. How did it taste.
February 24th, 2013
@tonydebont a bit more grainy than pate but really delicious - we had a bit on a water cracker!
February 24th, 2013
Lovely shot. I like the skirt...lol
February 24th, 2013
Good times.... love the kilts. The Scottish know how to party at every age...
February 24th, 2013
oo aye! The haggis deserves this indeed! I had forever wanted to try it, as I grew up with Burns' poems, and when I did I loved it! But we never had the ceremony in tame Exeter and this one on the video is not only fitting but also quite funny!

Bep
Never tried haggis...Daughter tried it once, she was not very enthousiastic ;-)

@gijsje The genuine one from Scotland was made from all sorts of odd things in the body all minced up and cooked in a sheep's stomach but nowdays they just use sausage skin. The herbs, spices and oatmeal are still included! Its really very nice!
February 24th, 2013
@frida You don't see this often so it is rather neat that they included it here and had the right tartans on !
February 24th, 2013
Oh but the kilts are the BEST PART of this shot !!!!!!!!!!!
February 24th, 2013
That was interesting, I was waiting for the bagpipes to kick in

Lovely crisp focus Maggie. I lived in Scotland for 15 months back in 1980. Met some wonderful people, and they do know how to have a good time!!

This could have been taken at my brother-in-laws wedding. Groom and pastor in kilts. Lovely shot.
February 24th, 2013

February 24th, 2013
That's one beast of a haggis. You can't beat a man in a kilt!
February 24th, 2013
Cool shot. Love the kilts and the bagpipes.
February 24th, 2013
You have done Scotland proud & I love haggis! The men look very handsome in their lovely kilts & bagpipes too ...a real Scottish party!
February 24th, 2013
@happypat I'm glad someone else likes haggis, Pat! You know thats what John calls me at times!
February 24th, 2013
We spent one Burns night at my daughter's college in Oxford. It was very ceremonial and the poem was read before we ate. Such a great evening. Do you know which clan the tartan is? xx
February 24th, 2013
@psychographer The green one is Mackay tartan, Lisa - - the red one, i'm not sure
February 24th, 2013

Great tradition! But I'll pass on the haggis :)
February 24th, 2013
look like a lot of talk just to get a drink.I have always like the bagpipes would have like to heard him play.
February 25th, 2013
@wildernesswillie I did have a clip with him playing but it didn't get as far as the finished video unfortunately - too late to do it again! Thanks for your comment and the Scots like to be dramatic about things - don't they?
February 25th, 2013
Never tried haggis, but I don't think I'd like it...
February 25th, 2013

February 25th, 2013
Just after college I dated a boy whose dad was Scottish and mom was Italian. He told me all about haggis. Yikes! Do you eat it?
February 26th, 2013
Nice shot of a traditional ceremony. It is good to wear national clothes and to play national instruments on that occasion.
February 26th, 2013

February 27th, 2013
